Introduction

I had been working on the internal video conferencing system for a while off and on. Usually it was light UI fixes, discussions with PM and Eng for updates. During this time GVC was internally new, it was starting to mature separately than other products.

Process

An exploration I explored was how could we embrace 16x9 monitors, improve the balance of showing the participant and maximize the sharing of content.

Caveats were that I was limited to following the patterns that we had at the time. So all other meeting participants were hidden while presenting, also most meetings happened in meeting rooms vs. people alone on a laptop somewhere else.

Outcomes

These never launched, some pieces did influence some of the external meets team products, but I don't have any metrics to the overall impact.

My product/engineering team didn't implement them because they were too difficult to make those changes to the internal infrastructure.

There were other explorations like a remote (to be added), some improvements to the internal desktop controller, and there were a few other smaller projects that I'll work to add to this portfolio over time.
